What the conference looked like in previous years

Mikuláš worked for years in the graphic studio of Aleš Najbrt and is the author of several editions of the visual style of KVIFF, the visual identity of Prague Integrated Transport and for example the city of Hostivice. Co-founder of the zetzetzet studio and university pedagogue at the Faculty of Fine Arts at Brno University of Technology.

Lukáš Kijonka is a designer working primarily as an art director and mediator of the process of designing complex identities for entities and at the level of individual projects. He combines theoretical critical practice with the craft process of production. He works as pedagogue at UMPRUM in Prague in the Studio of Graphic Design and New Media.

Marian Misiak is a type designer and researcher, co-author of the book Paneuropa, Kometa, Hel a book about the history of Polish typography. Working mostly for Polish cultural institutions, he designed a new visual identity for the National Museum of Wrocław and U–jazdowski Centre for Contemporary Art. He is also a co-author of the new logo of Warsaw Public Transport.

David Mackovič, the winner of the 4th BiP edition, photographer and the author of the book Zohor Speedway. The jury valued the book's thoughtful concept, the theme of motorcycle racers without brakes, their balancing on the edge of life and death culminating in the slogan “Who survives, wins”, the space for authenticity and rawness of the topic, and the chilling theme itself.

Dipozitiv Studio was at the beginning of the Book in Progress contest and conference, bringing to life the simple idea of supporting non-commercial book projects. In accordance with Government Regulation No. 5/2003 Coll., Studio Dipozitiv s.r.o. (hereinafter referred to as the „Organiser“) announces a non-anonymous and public contest for paper and book printing (hereinafter referred to as the „Contest“) in order to give the contestants the opportunity to present their graphic design to an expert jury, which will decide on the main winner whose design will attract the jury for its implementation, i.e. printing the design according to the scope and agreement between the OrganiSer, the contestant and other partners.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners commit to include information in the copyright page of their contest books about the type of paper used, Pergraphica, from general partner Mondi Group, and that the book was made possible thanks to the support of Book in Progress. The first place winner also undertakes to include information about the partner printer Quatroprint in the cover of their winning published book.

Organizational, administrative, promotional and technical work on the preparation, organization and evaluation of the Contest is provided by the Organiser.

The Organiser of the Contest is responsible for the jury meeting protocol, which include a written evaluation of the awarded books, written justification of the award proposals and the final report, including the organisation of the jury meeting. The Organiser is not a member of the jury.

Financial costs associated with the organisation of the Contest are covered by the Organiser.

The organiser reserves the right not to select any winner.

The Contest is open to entries without age or project restrictions. The winner will win paper and printing of his/her project worth 300.000 CZK as the main prize from the Organiser. The price of this print and paper must fit into the example book below: Cover - pages: 8, Text - pages: 352, Format: 167 mm x 230 mm, Fold-out format 334 mm x 230 mm, Packaging: Print data supplied: PUF, Edition: 400 copies. Any other configuration of the book is only possible with the consent and agreement of Quatro Print. However, the cost of printing should not exceed 150,000 CZK. Should the price exceed this limit, it is possible to increase this capital from the winner's resources by mutual agreement. The weight of paper for the winner should not exceed 1.5 tonnes. Should the load exceed this limit, it is possible, by mutual agreement, to increase this capital from the winner's resources.

The Contest evaluates conceptually original non-periodical publications (hereinafter referred to as „books“) designed by authors, graphic designers, companies in the Czech Republic or abroad. A conceptually original non-periodical publication is a non-periodical publication that has not been published in this graphic and artistic form anywhere before.

The application for the public Contest is submitted to the announcers electronically on the website bip.dipozitiv.cz, for each book separately.

occupation, company name (if a company is entering the competition), answers to the questions on the registration form: What is distinctive about your work? What book are you working on? Why does your book deserve support?

If the competition book is tied to a publisher, the Organiser reserves the right to know the publisher and their contribution to the contest book.

A PDF file of the book presentation and yourself for consideration by the contest judges is an integral part of the entry form.

Entries that do not contain these elements will be excluded from the Contest. In case of sending a book model of the contest project to the Organiser, the participant has the possibility to pick up the model at the Organiser's address Českomoravská 11, 190 00 Prague 9, after prior arrangement with the Organiser.

The books that proceed to the second round of the Contest are evaluated comprehensively, i.e. in terms of the quality level achieved, the printing process and the artistic level. The jury will evaluate the award-winning publications. The Organiser reserves the right to exclude any competitor from the Contest.

Books submitted to the Contest are evaluated by an expert jury appointed by the Organiser. The jury is headed by a chairman, an elected member of the jury. The jury is obliged to follow the provisions of the Contest Rules and Regulations.

The jury will only evaluate books that have been received by the closing date for entries to the Contest. The jury will decide the order of the books in 1st-3rd place.

The contestant with the first place book will receive the Organiser's grand prize. The prize is indivisible and consists of Pergraphica paper from the general partner Mondi Group up to 1.5 tonnes and a print of the winning book from the competition partner Quatro Print worth 150,000 CZK. The second and third place winners will receive a pallet of Pergraphica paper weighing 0.5 tonnes from the contest's general partner, Mondi Group. By participating in the Contest, the participant undertakes to prepare the book graphically for printing within 8 months of the announcement of the Contest - i.e. by August of the year following the announcement of the first prize.

By participating in the Contest, the participant agrees with processing of personal data and agrees to the use of his/her contest presentation and book to promote the Contest, both in the Czech Republic and abroad. The authors of the projects placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Contest undertake to submit their winning projects to the contest organised by the Ministry of Culture of the Czech Republic and the Memorial of National Literature - The Most Beautiful Czech Books of the Year.
